A long weekend it was. The weather was fabulous. Saturday the farmer's market opened. Not much produce, but I did get some great cheese. I was able to hit the Irish Fest down by the river. Didn't drink my weight in Guiness, but Was able to listen to Rising Gael, one of the nicest Irish bands in the midwest.
But in this part of t\he World the big thing is the Recall Scott Walker vote. Today. It seems to be dead even. ?the New is the expected turn out will be between 60-65% which would be fantastic. The contest seems to be a dead heat. Four Republican State Senators are also on the ticket in today's voting. I hope, a lot of us hope... that this could be the beginning of the end of Teabaggery.
A more telling anecdote... Scott Walker has been running all over the USA soliciting money and support from Big Corporations. Sunday past I was having coffee at the local coffee house when Tom Barrett, the Democratic challenger, stops in for a small impromptu meet and greet. And after he was done with his little speech, he hangs around.... and talks to teachers, and union folks... and even spends a few moments with a hippie blog writer. I would post the photo.... but it hasn't been sent to me yet. There just seems to be just a difference between the two candidates that I JUST CAN'T DESCRIBE.
But I know I will have a beer or two... and watch the returns. Wish us well, here in the Dairy State. We need it.

Millions of us outside Wisconsin are watching and hoping. I am.
I wish you guys and gals up there the best of luck.
I am hoping for the best for your state. If voter turn out is high that usually favors the Democrats.
I just saw that turnout is expected to be 119%. I hope this is a good sign - not only because I want to see this crook recalled but because I want to see the media eat a lot of crow.

The media certainly, but not only them. The DNC was a little too quick to write off the recall as a lost cause. Now they'll see what the unions can accomplish in terms of GOTV. Let's hope that lesson sinks in for November.
Along with wishing you well, I'm wishing all of us well. It's a package deal.
Well, it's been called for Walker. Damn, damn, damn. Money and corruption win.
Hate to be a downer but with the results I have heard the real winner here is Citizens United.
Baring a miracle I figure any candidate not supported by mega-money PACs supplied by corporations and whacko billionaires is screwed.
You guys still have the Packers.
Sad, sad, sad. Now he thinks he's got a mandate and a platform that's so righteous. Gross.
Welcome to the Citizens United States of America, phase one. The Wisconsin model (gut the public unions, watch private unions follow suit, then buy elections with corporate cash) will soon be the template for America.
Might as well have a beer...
Well, the "mandate" seems to be "If I can spend 9 times what my opponent does, I can win!"
So, you know, Free Market Politics work, I guess...
All.... plus side is state wide...voter turnout projected at 65%. My city it was 70% with Barrett winning by 2 points.
Upside in State... Recalled one State Senator, giving Dems a 17-15 majority, which should slow the Dictator down somewhat. November could be big in Assembly and Senate. Lot of analyticals still coming in.
I am bummed... but it is continuing. Walker outspent Barrett $35mm to $4mm.....I think the Dems need to hold a really really bake sale ....soon!
I was pulling for all the good people who turned out in the cold and snow to send Walker a message. This isn't Hollywood and things don't always work out.
My reading of it is that Walker will feel he's got a big, fat mandate to do whatever he and his rich masters want. Let the buyers' remorse begin. Who knows, Walker's victory plus a big case of hubris might end up being the seeds of his political destruction.
And even better, maybe this will cause some know-nothings and fence sitters to pay attention and conclude that something must be done about the Citizens Uniteds ruling. That really would be somethhing.
