Boy, the news is fun.... A Wixconsin Railroad executive got caught making illegal campaign contributions to Scott Walker. The CEO of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad would make contributions, exhort employees to make contributions, and then make reimbursements from the Company's expense account. Nice guy. Got caught. Faced up to seven years in jail. Pleaded guilty in a plea deal and got two years probation.... course, he says he did nothing wrong. I mean, everyone knows that CEOs are above any stupid law.
A startling 4% of Oshkosh Wi teachers have had enough and are retiring... a new record for a single year. Collectively they are taking with them..... 759 years of teaching experience. But teachers are a dime a dozen.... (or so the Governut says) and replacing them with help balance the budget. & who needs experience anyhow.
and in other more sublime news... I sometimes I have no idea how I got to somewhere, but I usually do, somehow....... and it is somepeople that get me there.
Case study #12893
I have met a whole buncha folks on the blogs that I will never meet face to face... which, truthfully, is a good thing for them. But then one person leads to another and another and the next thing you know you are casually chatting on FB with a political radical sign carrying commie socialist pinko radical subversive kindergarten teacher in Madison, WI........ and the conversation veers to niddy noddy and tussy mussy..... and I am wondering what the Stuff are they talking about.... I mean, this is a kindergarten teacher and it could be she is teaching them tykes to make terrorist devices out of toilet paper cardboard tubes and pipe cleaners... or who knows.... maybe they are just names for incredibly inedible Norwegian foods. But then Suzy explains that they just talking about some wool-yarn type thingees and the conversation gets distorted (oh, wow, do I love distorted conversations... they are good with a little apple butter and tea) and the Marli jumps in with this neat link about Socks for Japan. Seriously SOCKS FOR JAPAN .... now, it's a little thing and maybe it ain't much of nothing.... but if you think about it.... it does make sense. It takes a little effort, it's not washing away liberal guilt with a $5 donation.... and it is movement. "Things in Motion stay in Motion. Some really smart guy made a rule about that or some such. Ain't no niddy noddy to me. But check it out. Think about it. I did. And somehow it made me feel better. I'm going to go buy some to donate, cause there ain't nobody no where wants my old socks, Sheesh, my old socks doan even want me...

I buy new socks and they last about 3-5 washings before holes appear in them. Holes!!! Cheap junk I keep having to rebuy to replace.
Oh, where was I?...
maybe they are just names for incredibly inedible Norwegian foods better stay away from that junk there or you'll be suffering from indigestion. :)
Nice post and I would like to meet all you wonderful bloggers some day, I really would. I would even stop being shy for an hour or two just to say hello.
oh, Libs, I cannot believe you are that shy:)
I grew up in 'Norwegian' country in Wisco.... outside of lefsa.... I wouldn't touch that stuff!
WEll, after a thorough analysis of this post, I find the following:
You are either spending too much time at Oblio's or too little, or just the right amount. There, settled your problem.
Niddy noddies, tussy mussies and sign carrying kindergarten teachers in Madison -- OH MY! I'm honored to be your blogging friend, Jim, and Oshkosh isn't so far from Madison, is it? The number of retirements is ASTONISHING. All that experience, gone like that. Whoosh. Is this how Wanker the Skanker creates jobs? Not good, not good at all. And btw, how did you know what my students were doing today? Toilet paper tubes are a hot commodity in my classroom! Thanks for this post.
can anyone blame teachers for quitting? they've been disrespected by the governor and other elected officials, not to mention grandparents and parents of some of the snot-nosed little bastards into whom they try to pound some knowledge, so that the snot-nosed little bastards might grow up a little smarter than their imbecilic parents and grandparents who are calling teachers nasty names.
Suzy.... Ha! it was a conversation that needed to be related. or something. Listen, you guys keep the faith in Madison.... you would not believe how many folks support you, us, everybodyz!
Nonnie.... yupperz... it's gotten weird. IT'S CHEAPER TO RETIRE.... and that is sad.... that the value of teachers has just come down to dollars &dimes.....
I've donated some money but this is so much nicer to be able to send something real, and useful, and comforting. I'll definitely be going over to the little local sock store in the morning.
The story about the teachers pretty much being forced to retire is awful. No wonder I'm having to scavenge teh internetz for humor. I may be posting George Carlin routines next.
The fact that crooked RR CEO got two years' probation speaks volumes about what's wrong with this country. Don't ask why, but I'm quite sure that crooked CEO has fumed at some time that some dumb schmuck who robbed a liquor store using a toy pistol should be sent away for life. I'm just as sure the CEO wouldn't appreciate any irony in what he got and what he wanted another crook to get.
Hey... SW... get this.... The CEO's company, Wisconsin and Southern Railroad just got about $14 MM in grant money from..... Governut Scott Walker..... http://blog.wisdc.org/
whoa!!!
Susan.... you are kind, as usual
