"In watermelon sugar the deeds were done and done again as my life is done in watermelon sugar. I'll tell you about it because I am here and you are distant. Wherever you are, we must do the best we can. It is so far to travel, and we have nothing here to travel, except watermelon sugar. I hope this works out."

Richard Brautigan

Getting caught up at the office. Watch a little football tonight.
Tomorrow I am getting up early and hitting the bike trail. I want to be 'out' before dawn and not back until sunset. Fifty miles out, fifty back. It's not going to be a power ride. I expect it to take me all day. I have some poetry packed, a couple of old hippie books - good old Brautigan- some oranges and bananas. A little smoke. A bottle of water. Some paper and a pen.
I hope it is a good ride.

Filthy hippie.

Enjoy the ridin' and readin.' And don't chug the Ripple and end up crashing into a stream. Sexy sirens live there and once they capture you, your blogging days are over! Plus, they don't have beer.

Sounds a bit wholesome. Not in a bad way. Enjoy your day!

Got a destination or just riding into the sunset? Have a great time. I think I might get a few miles in right now! Thanks for the motivation.

Bradda.... yuppers.... destination....5:30 am to the lake to watch the sunrise.... then north along the trail to hear the crickets sing in the heat.... and then back again...

Dcup.... excuse me, but wholesome and I are only remotely related. (second cousins on my mothers side, I think)

Randal.... yuppers, Ripple...

Grateful Dead
"Ripple"

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

I mean, I ride a bike, but I don't go anywhere, although it does afford me the opportunity to watch 24 in its entirety.

sounds nice. you old hippie you. 100 mile round trip seems awfully long to me but I guess I'm not in that kind of shape ;-)

I'm with Randal - wondering what would happen if those sirens got hold of you. Sounds like that illustration at the top of the blog of The Pagan Sphinx... And they sure enough don't look like beer drinkers. Wine maybe, and other things... might be OK...

And I'm with Border Explorer, wondering what you'll bring back (besides sore muscles).

That sounds like a very nice day.

Well..... I didn't hit the hundred on saturday.

I woke up early.... the idea was to watch the sunrise over the lake and hit the trail.

Sunrise was canceled due to clouds and it drizzled/rained until ten.

I am a 'fair-weather' biker. Screw this biking in the rain biz.
I have been caught in thundershowers before. Rather takes the edge off the fun factor.

But I did get in fifty later in yesterday.....and sunrise this morning was fantastic!!! And I did get in another fifty today..... I guess I should just chill and realize I am a fifty-fifty kinda guy and forget this hundred thing.

I think I am getting a little morose with the end of summer looming..... knowing that the really great, hot, humid days (ya gotta love 'em, Randal) are soon over.

but it was a great day to be sucking in air!!!!

50 miles? I'd really be sucking wind.

Gotta hand it to ya, Jimm. Bike, poetry, smokey treats--sounds good. Some days I look at the casa chaos around me and wish I could be free like that.

Then again, without at least 10 kids running through the house, jammin', or rummaging through my kitchen for food I just might get lonely.

(looks over shoulder) Hey, you, get out of that pantry--go get food from your own house!

'scuse me.

I know what you mean about the end of summer blues. Only a week ago I was grumbling about our 3 days of 100* weather then 2 days later it was 50* with a major premonition of the 6 month winter cloud cover that's endemic in these parts.

At least Ontario had bright winter skies and beautiful starry nights. You get that too, right?

I can't wait to read about your adventures. I hope your ride went well...and that you kept your wheels balanced and on the ground, even though you may not have been.

You should get one of those plexiglass Popemobile things for when it rains. But don't forget the hat.
