Dear America

Dear America
I know it has been a difficult time during the last eight years and it maybe a long time before it becomes better.

If today was not a crooked highway
If tonight was not a crooked trail
If tomorrow wasn't such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothin' to me at all.
It will be better, of that I am sure, because even after I am gone I will have left my son to you and I have tried my best to teach him to have a good heart. He will help.
I can't see my reflection in the water
I can't speak the sounds that show no pain
I can't hear the echo of my footsteps
Or remember the sounds of my own name.
And if you need more help, America, call on my daughter. She is brave and strong and intelligent and guiding. When I am old and can no longer stand, call on her. She will help, too.

There's beauty in that silver singin' river
There's beauty in that rainbow in the sky
But none of these an' nothin' else can touch the beauty
That i remember in my true love's eyes.
I love you, America, and I give you my children.
Be good to them and bless them.
Get well soon.

God this is a gorgeous piece. You are sick? What the hell are you doing traipsing round the intertubes? You could be writing more and more of this lovely stuff.

Oh, now I get it. America is sick. Damn straight. Sorry to be so dense. This often happens with the elderly. Patience is sometimes called for.

This is a lovely piece.

We're handing off a mess to the next generation. I feel really bad about that.

Does America have Alzheimer's? Will America remember the past when America votes this November? Will America ever become a democratic nation again. Our children deserve that at least.

You've been quite sentimental these days Fancy-six-pack Jimm.

I just can't wait until November 4th ... I can't take it anymore. I've been spending a lot of time up in the mountains in an attempt to cleanse my soul..

Ah Jimm, we have so much at stake, it's scary. I love the way you use that Dylan song to turn it into a get well to the USA message.

I too have a wonderful and gentle son. I couldn't have expressed my feelings better than this.

Our kids'll be alright, but don't worry, there will be some Pentagon and Wall Street kids to perpetrate the next fuckery, as American as optimism.

Sorry, folks. ;-)
